by the side of a river close to their nest,a female and juvenile were left,that was in 2002,in 2003 the female came back to her nest with a new mate,i was able to verify that it was the male that was the new bird,i watched them mate,and the new mate was smaller then the Newfoundland osprey's that i had been observing for year's,this particular nest site i started watching in 1983,the female took the new male back to it's nest in 2003,and this male followed.We are up north,and they arrive back on approx. the 25th of April,and they leave by the end of September.Depending upon whichever climate they adapt to,that determines when they migrate,and when they come back.By the time the newfie
osprey's arrive to breed,other osprey's
around the world breeding in other areas already have chick's,and getting them ready to fly,our's won't fly until
the start of July,or possibly mid June.

I can't find anyplace on this site that says where the ospreycam is located, except for "Long Island," which is rather general.
I enjoy watching the ospreys "live" at Steppingstone Park in Great Neck, Long Island.

This my first year on a site like this as I've always been a birder interested in all types of birds especially the three dozen plus I see in my own yard at the feeders I have.

(9/23 01:24 pm) Schaef in Vegas : I am 61 and retired, living in Las Vegas, NV. I marshall a golf course there so I am outside all day. We has a couple of lartge bodies of water oin the golf course where migratory birds may stop at the change of seasons. Yesterday I was amazed to see an osprey land on top of a street light overlooking the course. Has anyone heard of osprey stopping over in southern Nevada? I am sure of the ID.

(2/28 10:57 am) scgull seeker : I am in Charleston'SC We ahve a family of Osprey here who we think laid eggs in mid Feb. because the weather has been so mild.day before yesteday it was cold and rainy and windy. The next day I didn't see the momma bird at all. This nesting place has been here for years and the birds always return. My question is if the birds leave their nest due to weather or whatever reason, will they return when conditions change? For example when it warms up again in a month or will they come back? Fortunately in this case she came back, or she was so low in the nest that I coulnd't see her. I'm still curious.any aswers?

(3/5 06:56 pm) Captn Tuna : First Ospreys of the season reported on the James in Richmond. Osprey reported to chase off 2 Peregrine Falcons who had taken residence in the nest.
Looking forward to the coming season.

(4/16 01:33 pm) Osprey : Hi Gary, there was a lighting strike near the nest area last week and the cam was knocked out...that's the reason for the blue screen. DPOF is in the process of obtaining a new cam and will update on their progress. Don't know how long this will take but check back for more info.
