Thread subject: PALE MALE
Name Date Message
Celeste 12/22/04 12:49 pm I just discovered that the support "cradle" for the new nest for Pale Male is being constructed at a Metal Works Company here on Long Island! It will be put in place tomorrow. There is an interesting article regarding red-tails on the Pale Male website written by a Hawk Expert John Blakemant to Marie Winn, (who wrote the book about Pale Male).....http://jomiller.com/

It tells how the hawks will get a strong sense for nest building sometime in February and how they will go about it. It will be interesting to see if the hawks will go back to their original nest site, skip a year of even having chicks, (is possible according to the experts), or make a nest site elsewhere.
Marie 12/22/04 04:22 pm Wonderful news Celeste.........hopefully they will return to build a new nest...and yes, as you suggested Celeste these raptors do take a year off occasionally, although it seems Pale Male likes to keep his gene pool going each year. He must be getting on in years by now. As each year passes, aren't we all LOL....
Tim 12/22/04 08:50 pm Heading into Manhattan on Thursday and plan on checking on the progress of the reconstruction.

Tim 12/24/04 12:22 pm Between the terrible rain and the crowds it was too difficult to make it down to 5th ave.
The news reports that the cradle Celest mentions has been installed. Now all there is to do is wait and see if the birds reclaim there spot on the building.
Marie 12/24/04 07:12 pm Thanks TIM for the update......we will keep our fingers crossed.
Rich 12/24/04 07:50 pm I flew over NYC on my way to Harrisburg to spend Christmas with my Dad. I could look down and see Central park. I was at 6,500 feet, so I could not see any detail. I was hoping the Pale Male and Lola were having a good Christmas, and that they soon will be back in their nest. Today at the intersection of 109 and 110 I think I saw a Red Tail Hawk perched on a phone wire at the overpass there.

Merry Christmas all! :)
