Carla 05/20/08 07:30 pm first: Did someone that that yellow police line tape looking stuff out of the nest or did it finally just blow off?

second: I don't remember the DPOF nest ever being this quiet last year. Anybody else?
Kelly 05/21/08 05:25 am 1st: Not sure what happened with the yellow stuff ... glad to see it gone.

2nd: It is quite quiet at DPOF nest. Last night I heard faint osprey chirps; and this morning there were a few chirps which could be heard over the wind and driving rain. Sounds like a pretty miserable day!
Melanie 05/21/08 04:09 pm Is anyone getting any sound from DPOF at all right now? I've gotten nothing since last night
Mickey 05/21/08 04:30 pm nothing here either Mel.

I asked several weeks ago about the quiet nest.
It just doesnt sound right.
Without Tim and Toms on sight obs,I would have said the nest was empty.
Melanie 05/21/08 05:05 pm Doubt that - we should at least be hearing wind. I just wanted to make sure we hadn't all of a sudden gone Mac incompatible.
Kelly 05/21/08 05:27 pm I'm not getting any sound now either. Perhaps that pounding rain this morning has something to do with it :(
Carla 05/21/08 05:32 pm I haven't had any sound at all either the last few times I have checked today.
Celeste 05/21/08 06:11 pm thank goodness. I wasn't getting any either and I was beginning to get a "mac" headache:-)
Shelley 05/21/08 06:42 pm No sound here either. And I don't have a Mac!

:-~
Kelly 05/21/08 08:35 pm Just heard an osprey somewhat alarm chirping albeit briefly.
Kelly 05/21/08 08:52 pm More alarm chirps this moment ... sounded like our Betty. Do we live in hope?!
Kelly 05/21/08 09:03 pm OK ... so you can ignore me ;) As I was watching the Hilton Head nestcam, I apparently scrolled over the "Listen to an Osprey Call" which, apparently again, you don't have to click on but simply position your cursor over the line and there is the familiar sound. Sorry!!!
Anne UK1 05/22/08 05:44 pm I'm presently listening to lots of sweet chirps from the nest. I presume Betty (though maybe this new Dennis does a bit of singing too).
I've drawn the conclusion that this being a quiet year is a good sign. That there are no repeats of last year's intrusions which caused us so much anxiety. And that the reason we're not hearing Betty calling loudly and frequently for fish is that Dennis 08 is an excellent provider.
It's a real shame we can't see what's going on, but it would be much harder if we were hearing lots of alarm calling. So I'm glad it's quiet for now - though I hope we'll hear some noisy chicks soon :)
Celeste 05/22/08 06:04 pm Still not hearing any sound except some slight static sound of the player, no sounds of wind, etc,

Returned to edit the above as soon as I posted, as I briefly heard the soft chirps of Betty, but now it's back to that slight static sound.
lynn 05/22/08 08:02 pm No sounds at this time 8:00 PM, not even wind.
Melanie 05/22/08 09:04 pm No sound at 9 pm est
lynn 05/22/08 09:34 pm Should we worry Melanie? Shouldn't there be some sounds if the audio was working?

Lyn
Kelly 05/22/08 10:07 pm Nada!
Anne UK1 05/23/08 06:02 am Well for those of you without sound, it all sounds pretty peaceful again this morning. The odd bird that does a chirring sort of call - is that a chicadee? Apart from that not much.
It was so nice to hear Betty yesterday - it really is a different call from the scottish ospreys, and it's the one I'm used to, so it was wonderful to hear it again. I do hope the cam gets fixed, but it's not sounding promising on that front is it :(
Celeste 05/23/08 11:01 am You are right Anne, I thought it was my imagination but yes, the osprey in Scotland do have a different chirp:) Interesting.
