Kelly 04/22/09 12:07 pm Here are a couple of shots of today's osprey ... here & here. Busy getting the house in order :)

You're right, Craig, appears to be a different osprey from yesterday.
Marie 04/22/09 01:11 pm I was just checking in too today and saw one good looking osprey with heavy chest markings.
Kelly 04/22/09 01:23 pm Oh, don't let that fool you ... we've come to appreciate that both female and male Finnish ospreys have dark chest colouring.
DaisyG 04/22/09 02:10 pm LOL very true Kelly. I'm still not convinced that wasn't the male yesterday and the female today....or was it vice versa...?? :))
Marie 04/22/09 02:14 pm It does seem that way for Finnish Ospreys...
The North American ospreys just don't seen to have such deep necklaces...well not on the west coast. The males are predominately white chested.
Amazing how different these birds can be in different parts of the world.
Kelly 04/22/09 02:24 pm Here are last years' Finnish couples: Hailuoto and Nauvo.
DaisyG 04/22/09 02:48 pm Thanks Kelly. Yes when they are together you can see there are differences. So difficult when seen separately.
Marie 04/23/09 02:57 am Thanks Kelly...they really look like females as we know them though, with those deep necklaces.
cathy 04/23/09 10:32 am I captured some images of the Finnish ospreys - both the Hailuoto and the Saaksikamera Each was at a magical moment when I think the sun was setting 2009 Finnish Ospreys
DaisyG 04/23/09 01:32 pm Nice captures Cathy.

Very dark female on the nest at the moment.
Tiger 04/23/09 01:48 pm Interesting point. These ospreys have to fly 100km in order to fish as that is how far the pack ice extends south.
cathy 04/23/09 02:31 pm There are two there now. What intrepid travelers! I added a photo of them to the web site link in my first message.
DaisyG 04/23/09 02:39 pm Two captures of the male and female there now

Here and here.
cathy 04/23/09 02:45 pm They look very healthy. Its interesting how far they have to fly to fish! I wish them well.
Kelly 04/23/09 04:58 pm Thanks, Daisy! Definitely not the same female as last season.
