Thread subject: News update about this site

||I just noticed the message by SamiS, at the bottom of Tim's *mosquiteo* thread, below. In case it goes unnoticed, please check it out. It's a bit of good news/bad news but it's about the first official word we've had directly from the powers-that-be. Thanks, SamiS!

||Mmm, I just read the same thing, Shelley.

||Speaking of books.... I don't know if I mentioned this one before but last year (I think) I read a small book by British writer Michael Morpurgo. He writes mostly for kids but every book of his that I've read (quite a few) are eqally and easily enjoyable by adults. I think this one, Dear Olly, would be especially appealing to folks on this site. Here is part of a review I wrote after reading it:
"..This was a very fast read, and such a simple but moving story. I love how Morpurgo connects the three sections, "movements...like a symphony", as he puts it. And each one did, indeed, flow seamlessly into the next.
As an avid (if amateur) birder, myself, I especially loved the middle movement, Hero's story. It is no secret that migration, especially the very first one, is fraught with danger, and many birds never make it. But I have to say, I don't think I've ever read a *personal account* of the journey, and I was totally caught up in it"
Check it out!

||Maybe a few letters to the local newspapers or TV stations might help to find a technically adept volunteer. Local publicity for the nest is needed to stir some interest. I don't know whether the nest was even mentioned in Betty's obituary - I don't seem to think it was.

||That's a great idea, Pam! You're right about that sort of solution needing to be local.

||Shelley,just sent a short email regarding DEAR OLLY, and was notified that delivery failed :-((

||Did you put .ca at the end? Not .com
||07/31/09 12:58 pm
||I actually cut and pasted the first time I sent it. I have just tried again after typing the address and the same undeliverable message came back to me.

||That's interesting. Ambigous situation. But if you all in NY can find someone....a birder and a techie....that's a good combination....and maybe not so hard to find. How to get the word out is the thing. Bird clubs? Audobon? Computer clubs?

||If anyone can give me some ideas on what exactly we're looking for re. techies, sponsors, etc. I'll do the looking into and getting in touch with to try to get somebody on board, but I don't know what it is that I need to ask for. Once I know what "it" is that are the needs, I can write things up to mail or speak to whoever it might be.
Tim , Melanie, Tiger, Lisa any ideas!?

||Lyn...maybe you should ask your question in a new thread so that it will get noticed.
