She's keen! Here's hoping for a successful trip. Link |

There is something not quite right about this map as I cannot believe that Rothes keeps doubling back on herself. See Rothes' migration |

I see what you mean Tiger. It would be normal for her to explore in a northerly direction before migrating, but not to return up the Irish Sea like that. I think there must be a mistake on the map. |

Yes, I thought it was a bit odd. Still, we know she's heading in the right direction so that's something. Looks like she's found a few bits of water en route too. It just seems so early - maybe a result of such good feeding at this nest this year?
I'm looking at the cam just now and I think it's EJ in residence - maybe wondering where her eldest has got to. |

She has actually been reported on Birdguides so someone has seen her on Anglesey!
I would feel happier if she put a bit of east in her course. We dont want a repetition of last years drownings in the Atlantic. |

Just had a quick look at the comments on the blog over there (it's so busy I've not been able to keep up for weeks!) Picked this up from Richard Thaxton re the map:-
"Hmmmm. Just looked at up-dated map and there are several green lines showing, with ups & downs. Not sure what's gone on here, as Alice and I carefully put in the co-ordinates, but hey, this was our first time at in-putting a lot of significant data. I'll try and look into it tomorrow. I've contacted colleagues in Wales to keep an eye open for Rothes."
Also a post from someone who was at LoL recently. They think the oldest chick is male and the younger one female, due to size. They don't ring them a) because they lost a chick a few years back right after ringing and b) because of the age of the female - they don't want to risk stressing her, which seems fair enough. And apparently she set off on migration last Wednesday. I hope she travels safely and maybe returns again next year :)
Anne - is there a link for Birdguides? Fingers crossed for Rothes - I remember last year Nethy came west and Deshar was over to the east, and we know which of those two got it wrong so I suppose we just have to take it day by day. A westerly breeze wouldn't go amiss now. I saw half a weather forecast at lunchtime and it looks as if Rothes has timed it well - rain heading into Scotland on Thursday but fine weather further south.

Yes and some of Roy Dennis's tagged birds went into the water a couple of years ago. One off the Scillies and one a lot further south.
Yes you can log into the unpaid version of Birdguides at
http://www.birdguides.com/register/login.asp?d=%2Fbirdnews%2Fdaily.asp
You just have to register for the weekly newsletter and you can then log in to the daily sightings list. I pay for an enhanced version which gives you the exact location (being a bit of a twitcher!). |

You've got your wish for her turning to the east Anne - Rothes is now in Torquay! She's certainly motoring - apparently just south of me at 4pm yesterday too. Oh I'd love to see one of these birds fly over my house ....
Thanks for the link - I'll check it out later. |

Yes because you will be able to see when an osprey is sighted near you.
