Sunday's storm was really fierce - we are still having electrical problems going on even though we do have power. At any rate, I was talking with my banding buddy Greg - he said he had received over 20 phone calls about chicks getting blown out of nests or nest being blown off platforms. He told me this was one of the calls he got. STORY HERE

I just hate to think of nests being blown off platforms. Those were two lucky chicks to be rescued like that.

Awwww. I hope the babes are okay. I am sure the parents would tend to them after the rescuers left the scene. I'll bet some other nests went down all over the place. Couldn't help thinking about the Riverside RTH pair when reading about NYC.

They were lucky..would be interesting to know how the parents will tend to them during the night, bringing fish, or the chicks fledging from the ground. etc.

Any chance for a follow up to this story?

What I do know is that they were taken to a small nearby island, nest and all. Greg (my banding buddy) advised them this should be a safe option. They said the parents were circling above and they didn't want to disturb the birds further. There are no ground-based predators on the island and two houses (only one lived in year round by a 75 y/o man whom I know and he is aware of what happened) so the birds should be safe and unmolested. Hard to know if there will be a follow up but if he tells me anything I will post it.
