The DPOF ospreycam was retrieved from the nest site on October 4.
No visible damage was found on any of the components, but the
camera remained nonfunctional. The lens was removed and
attached to the new camera and an image was produced. The
working assumption, at this point, is that the damage from the
lightning strike on April 12 was confined to the camera and the
rest of the system is functioning.
We were able to purchase the new camera mentioned above due to
the support of the Post-Morrow Foundation and contributions
from many of the dedicated observers viewing this site. Moving
forward, the plan is to reinstall the camera at the nest site
next spring. The technical manpower situation has not changed,
so the upcoming 2009 nesting season may be the last to see a
live video stream.
The members of DPOF greatly appreciate the support everyone has
shown for the ospreycam over the years. We also feel that
Dennis Puleston would have appreciated the web site and the
attention it has received from its world wide community. We
now look forward to the 2009 season and hope that it will be
as successful as the 2003 through 2007 seasons.
