Jamie 06/05/04 09:53 pm I didn't get to post earlier today, but I saw one of the chicks stand up and flap his/her wings and I was shocked to see how big he/she was! I don't usually get to see much more than a blurry picture of the chicks just laying around, looking like sticks and I don't get a clear picture, but I could see the size and boy did that put a smile on my face :-) Well done, Betty and Dennis!!!
Mickey 06/06/04 10:10 am Hi Jamie......That was #1 and he was doing that alot Saturday :-) It was windy too. I dont have kids but when Im around little ones its fun watching them learn.(anything) Yesterday in the nest you could feel the chicks learning. #1 had moments flapping stretching. #2 and #3 had moments during feedings.(taking chunks and or tearing big chunks from Betty) Yesterday was a nice day to escape my lil world and get in the nest :)
Shelley 06/06/04 10:42 am Heart attack city, too!!! I saw 2 of them edging awfully close to the rim of the nest yesterday, peering over the side. EEK!!! I don't have kids either and though I'd like to believe I'd have been a great parent, I probably would have been a really Nervous Nelly, if my shouting at the screen at the chicks is any indication!!! :-)
Celeste 06/06/04 11:21 am Oh Shelley, PREPARE yourself....you have no idea. I do believe there is an archived video what we would call "herding". A chick would get behind another chick to "push" him at the very edge of the nest....Finally the chick that would be pushed would suddenly become submissive. I would love when chick 2 who always seemed to be the one to be pushed, one day did the "herding" himself to chick 1. However, I spent many a time clutching my desk watching this!
Jamie 06/06/04 10:51 pm To Mickey, Shelley & Celeste:
thanks for the info...I just love reading everything and "catching" up on what's been going on when the computer is off...I wish I could have it in front of me 24/7, but I have 3 very active kids (14, 13 & 8) and life calls all the time...thanks for all the info :-)
