Celeste 07/02/04 06:21 pm In researching an answer about why osprey bobb their heads, I had forgotten that many questions that we are asking were asked last year, and are addressed in the 2003 commentaries. I just finished reading them again, and had forgotten some of the things that were addressed. For first time observers as well as 2nd time observers it is worthwile to read these commentaries that were offered to us by the DPOF.
Mickey 07/02/04 07:37 pm I miss those weekly treats this year :(

Marie 07/02/04 11:02 pm WHOOPS... I hit somthing I shouldn't have and bingo...gone!
Sorry about that...
I was saying that I got so engrossed in the commentary from 2003 I started to check out the migration routes and realised that it takes these birds five to six weeks to get to their wintering grounds. Amazing the distance they fly to central Argentina. I wonder where the western Ospreys migrate to. Perhaps they all join up somewhere in Argentina. Perhaps not!! There are some ospreys that nest in Baja, California and live there all year round. Rather similar to those that stay all year round in Florida. Perhaps those that winter in Argentina do occasionally fly West instead of up the East coast. These wonderful birds are even found to breed in Alaska. That is a long way to fly from where ever????
