Thread subject: 4/8/04 intruder clip?
Name Date Message
Mickey 04/09/04 02:07 pm Ive watched the clip about 10 times now. (yes I have no life)
1......clearly its Betty on the egg
2......The 1st bird to land in the nest was the intruder and didnt come from the camera perch. The 1st perch sound you hear is Dennis most likely moving because you hear him finally leave it after the intruder is in the nest. After the scuffle, thats Dennis hovering above trying to chase the intruder away.Betty finally takes charge and pecks the intruder away.
Shelley 04/09/04 02:15 pm I think that clip was posted yesterday. It has yesterday's date on it. I hope someone reviews the clips from the observations we all posted today and can offer some further insight to today's disturbances. I suppose that if the birds are not banded, there is really no way to actually know who the third one is, is there?
Mickey 04/09/04 02:27 pm Shelly......Im no Osprey expert but I think I can say one thing with complete certainty. Betty would fight to her death to protect her eggs and or chicks. The clip was posted from yesterday morning as theres still one egg. 2 Days in a row for the intruder most likely tells us that he or she is missing its mate for whatever reason. Its been written here that Adult Osprey have been known to feed immature birds.I guess we now know how Adults treat intruding Adults *wink*
Betty sure did what was needed huh?
