Thread subject: Question for Tom
Name Date Message
RonS 04/11/04 12:18 am For the alst two days, the live feed has been very slow (20Kbps). This makes for a blurry picture. Is there a problem or will we be getting the higher speed (225Kbps) back?
Tom T 04/11/04 09:10 am The 225Kbps stream is still their along with the 20Kbps stream. I have seen the connection spontaneously drop from the higher speed to the lower, and a stop and restart of the player usually restored the higher speed connection.

The RealPlayer software both advertizes the bandwidth capabilities of your connection, as it was set when you installed the software, but it also monitores the connection and drops down if there is a consistent problem, most likely due to network congestion.

I suspect that your experience will vary with the time of day. There are speed checks you can run, but they will, most likely, only give a reliable answer for your local traffic. If the congestion is somewhere else the test will not be useful.

If the problem continues, please send me your IP address and I will try to trace the connection from the server to your machine and see where the delays are.
Tim 04/18/04 08:17 pm The stream has been lower then the usual 225kbps, Im using DSL, are the recent problems due to net traffic ? Does my IP address change each time I log on and off Tom?
