Marie 07/15/04 02:18 am It is now a week since these two young eaglets branched out and became 'Branch Managers' down at the beach in Victoria. It could be tomorrow 15th that we see them take their first leap into the air. I guess we call them 'Air Cadets' then!
Marie 07/15/04 11:26 pm Eaglets didn't pass their entrance exams today for 'FLIGHT SCHOOL' so back to the drawing board. Something to do with TIMING...and development or those flight feathers. The winds must have to come from the right direction for the eaglets. There is only one way out of that nest situation for three sides have heavy leafed branches. One side is wide open for launch into space. This area faces the people that stand and view this nest at anytime of day. Front row viewing as they say!
I have just returned from the beach and saw a behaviour I have never seen before. I believe it was the female that returned to the nest, from the island close by, with a 5-6 inch fish in her BILL.It was not in her talons which is the usual mode of transportation. She just dropped into the nest, so One eaglet devoured it in no time at all...Birds are forever surprising the observer.
