Thread subject: Fishing question
Name Date Message
Shelley 07/16/04 05:14 pm Does anyone know, or know if there is solid documentation on when the chicks actually begin to fish for and feed themselves? Obviously, once they all fledge, it still takes time to learn and practice the skill but at what point do the parents simply stop bringing food back to the nest?

I ask because I thought that with all the screeching going on lately, that the withholding of food stage had begun. Yet today, I swear, every time I've checked in to the cam, at least one, if not 2 or all 3, were eating something! It seems that today has been a good fishing day but home delivery service has also improved, as well!

Any thoughts on this?
Tiger 07/16/04 05:46 pm I think the answer to that comes from the translocation projects. Here the chicks do not have real parents and so they have to learn to fish for themselves.

I think the answer is that they take any free meals they get. However they must learn to fish otherwise they could not survive migration.

The question is a difficult one.

Shelley 07/16/04 09:12 pm Tiger, you are right on. Cathy provided a link to a site that states just that. It is in one of her replies in the thread about the new video clip.

Thanks
