Nancy L 07/16/04 08:21 pm I just got home from East Hampton. David brought his wife & 14 month-old daughter-what a cutie! He's touring now since his latest book was released 2 months ago. Danged if I can remember the name of it -- something like "I Hate Nature." It's a collection of his essays, so he read selected parts of some of them - quite humerous! He also brought slides of Osprey from when he wrote "Return of the Osprey." He spoke about an hour, but don't expect details from me! Maybe Cecilia will have more details. I met her & her husband, but you'll have to wait for her report, since they won't be home until Sunday night.
Celeste 07/16/04 09:26 pm So great you met Cecilia...I have had the pleasure also! Was it crowded, etc?
Nancy L. 07/17/04 11:59 am Approximately 20 people attended. They have a very nice buildings & grounds which I hear were recently donated to the Nature Conservancy. It was easy to find (once I had the directions.) They have a small "auditorium" room. Afterwards, they served wine & cheese & other beverages. It only took me 1 & 1/4 hours to get home - cruise control all the way on Sunrise Hwy. from east of Shinnecock to Oakdale.
Mickey 07/17/04 03:17 pm and 5 hours to get there Nancy?
Nancy L 07/18/04 12:01 pm I made a "day of it." I left @1:15, & only "waited" bumper to bumper for @ 10 Mins 'till I cut off north of Rt 27 and took back roads with no traffic to North Sea. I ate my sandwich lunch overlooking the Little Peconic Bay. I then continued the back roads to Noyac Rd. (a little more traffic there) and on to the Eliz. Morton Wildlife Preserve. I walked down to the beach, watched an osprey nest out towards Jessups Neck (?)with my binoculars, went back to the pond and got to see a great blue heron catch & swallow a toad! Then I took back roads down to Montauk Hwy in Bridgehampton and did the bumper to bumper thing for another 5 minutes. So I had a really nice, peaceful day. Thank you.
