Thread subject: Oh! To learn to FLY.
Name Date Message
Marie 07/18/04 05:12 pm Just got in from the beach to see how well the eaglets were doing. Well, the oldest and biggest and lightest in clour, just floated above my head ...around and around the nest tree it glided...it was as though it was just feeling for the first time the absolute thrill of flight. In my minds eye I could just see it grow in strength and confidence and even a few inches, ha ha. It was a Spiritual experienc as this eaglet just glided magestically on the gentle breeze. The MOMENT was interrupted occasionally by the crashing around in the leaves of the other eaglet who was doing its THING. I am sure those first few hours of flight must be hair-raising for the parents and young alike. With crash landings and flights that take them a little too far from the nest these young ones that test their wings must have scary moments. I had a frantic call this morning from a HUMAN to say one of the eaglets was down at a school yard tree being harrassed by CROWS. By the time I got up and ready to go the young one had made its way back to the nest...bet it was the younger dare devil eaglet! The thrill of being able to leave the ground or nest in this case, spread ones wings and just float must be an experience most of us will never realise. I suppose hand gliders know what it feels like to be free floating.
Tiger 07/18/04 05:23 pm Marie what type are these eagles? Bald headed one?

Marie 07/18/04 05:35 pm No Tiger...just Bald Eagles........no bald headed ones around here... :-))
Joking apart we also have Golden Eagles here but very few. This stupid Govt. decided to kill off 6 golden Eagles over the past five yeras to help try to save the almost extinct Vancouver Island Marmot. No one has the right to Kill a bird!!!! People have been up in arms about this.......got to head off to work now.......
