Thread subject: Osprey young still being fed.

Marie 09/07/04 01:43 am Two young at the nest site when I showed up at 6pm. Only had 30 mins to observe. Both were calling. Younger one on a pole and 'Alpha' on the nest. Behaviours changed as soon as they spotted 'PAPA' coming in from the golf course. The little one flew to the nest before the male arrived. As soon as the fish delivery was dropped off(left foot this time) the little ? male managed to secure it with his right foot and mantled it. Meanwhile papa flew off. I didn't see him settle on his favorite perch. The Alpha juvenile stayed right at her sibling's side without any traces of agression. She just called softly while the little one ate the entire fish in the nest with big sister close by. Perhaps she wasn't very hungry. Gold/red fish seem to be plentiful aroound here. These two must have a very special arrangement when fish are brought in. I can't say I have ever seen a fish tug-of-war or agression between these two. Still no sign of the adult female. These young osprey have been flying for just over one month now. It must be soon that the parent will stop supplying the fish meals. I left as the two young stood together in the nest calling for more fish.
