Lori 04/18/04 10:08 pm Hi Cecilia! No I'm ashamed to say I have never canoed out east. Is it crowded in the summer? We tend to stay away from the east end during high summer. I think I will have to pester my husband into taking me though. :-))
Cecilia 04/19/04 10:42 am Lori, It does gets crazy on the roads but the bays are never that busy (except Three Mile Harbor does have several marinas, hence a lot of power boat traffic). June is never that bad because the kids aren't out of school yet. September and October are fantastic months to canoe out east...the light is so special and the colors in the wetlands are amazing. Plus, the gnats and mosquitos are gone! May is gorgeous. All of the budding wildflowers have opened, the reeds are lime green and the skies can be dramatic...especially early in the morning and at sunset. If you decide to go out at some point let me know and I'll give you some info about where you can park (at certain times of the year you need an East Hampton sticker to park at some of the put-in areas). Cheers, Cecilia
Lori 04/19/04 09:36 pm Thanks muchly Cecilia!! Maybe in September after the kids go back to school and Fall is starting to set in and the osprey have flown south for the winter I will ask for the info. Happy birding :-)Lori
