Thread subject: Question re chat room to Tom T
Name Date Message
Celeste 04/29/04 07:36 pm I was just wondering. A few of us have given the chat room a "college try", and we all seem to be missing one another most of the time. I was wondering if there would be anyway to signal while we are on the website that there is someone in the chatroom....perhaps some kind of sound or symbol, while we are using other parts of the site? I am probably asking for a lot of "programming" here, but I thought I would just ask! And, also, some kind of a reminder to those who sign in that they must sign out. AND is there any way of shortening the lapse of time it takes for a chat room post to be posted?
Thanks!!! See what's happening Tom, we are all getting a bit spoiled with all these wonderful frills you are giving us this year!
Kathy 04/30/04 02:09 pm My question is about signing out. I signed out that day I tried to "chat" but yet my name is still showing as "signed on." Tom, did I forget to do something?
I agree with Celeste I like the new "frills" this year.

Mickey 04/30/04 05:21 pm Kathy.......You still show as being in the room in a pretty pink I might add :) Go back and try logging out again.....Or log in and then log out.
You have my number if you need help.
Tom T 05/01/04 11:41 pm I changed the code so that at each refresh of the chat page that user's login information is updated. If you stop viewing the page, the information is not updated and after about 5 minutes, the name will disappear from the participants list at the top. If you sign out, the name will disappear right away.

As to shortening the refresh time, the shorter the time, the higher the load on the server. Currently the chat page refreshes every 30 seconds. I will probably reduce it again soon and see what the change is. I hope to get to a value that those who want to use the page can live with.
