Thread subject: Are our chicks female?
Name Date Message
Pam 06/18/05 12:22 pm I thought I noticed yesterday but wasn't sure - today it seems even more obvious that our chicks have darkish feathers appearing across their chests like a female "necklace". They seem like girls to me and always have done - not as aggressive as the male. And, talking of males, still no sign of Dennis - this is getting slightly worrying. Breakfast time is running into lunchtime and still nothing since supper last night.
Anne 06/18/05 01:07 pm At the moment, the chicks are sleeping and Betty is standing quietly. Has there been a feed? I hope so.
Anne 06/18/05 01:13 pm PS. If Betty has been calling for food today, couldent that mean that Dennis was nearby. Otherwise why nag for food? Also, have we reached the stage that Celeste was talking about the other day, the stage when the male brings less food.
Pam 06/18/05 01:18 pm Nobody has posted an observation reporting a feed and Celeste watches most of the early morning.
Anne 06/18/05 01:40 pm At last, Shelley has reported a delivery. At least we know Dennis is safe.
Anne 06/18/05 01:47 pm I am watching the chicks being fed at the mo - their table manners are beautiful! I can also hear Dennis in the background giving his territorial call. I wonder if that is why he hasent been fishing today.
Pam 06/18/05 05:19 pm They definitely like to show a shapely pair of legs !
