Nancy L 06/18/05 03:10 pm After an exhausting month of family affairs, it's finally over. We just said our goodbyes to our son & his family as they head back to California. It was fun, BUT: peace, at last!!

The chicks have grown SO big!

Our son & wife gave us a "thank you" gift: a 6-8:00 P.M. osprey cruise down the Peconic River and into Flanders Bay, sponsored by the Atlantis Marine World in Riverhead, L.I. We can make a reservation for any Sat. evening in July or August. So now I'm trying to figure when we might see the most osprey at that time -- probably when the chicks have fledged and therefore there might be more out & about, practising their fishing? When do you think would be the most opportune time to go?
Anne 06/18/05 06:32 pm What a thoughtful gift. Hope you enjoy it.
Marie 06/18/05 11:20 pm smile..............now that is a thougtful GIFT.
Celeste 06/19/05 05:04 am Hmm....the only thing about waiting for the chicks to fledge is you might be passing a nest when it is empty......When I am in Canada on the lakes, I seem to be there right before the chicks have fledged and it is nice to see them in the nest chirping away, and watch the parents bring them food.....also, if they are still in the nest the parents will be nearby with their warning chirps too! The best scenario would be timing it when there are chicks in the nest, like a "CZ" and being able to witness a "Spirit" practicing fishing, (which I saw on the lake last year in Ontario).....One thing for sure is your boat will be nice and stable, my husband and I were watching a nest so intently that we drifted into shallow water and hit a rock right below the water that we didn't see and when my husband started the motor again, we almost flew out of the boat.....pretty scary....:))
