Thread subject: Sneezing

Cecilia 06/27/05 10:56 am I've noticed with my birds that sneezing is usually caused by something in their nose, which in their case is usually the talc like powder that their feathers produce. With the chicks it could be pollen, nest debris or the keratin (sp?) that breaks off of their pin feathers as they emerge. It gets lodged and the only way they can get rid of it is to try to scratch it out (ouch) or sneeze it out. It does sound more like a bark than a sneeze. We worried last year that they might be coming down with colds but I think it's just that one of them is plugged up a little.
Anne 06/27/05 05:11 pm I have been watching for half an hour just now and both chicks are sneezing/barking. They are also preening so that could be significant.
