Thread subject: Flapping Fish
Name Date Message
Pam 07/01/05 06:13 pm The fish that the birds re feeding on at present is still flapping and I have noticed this before. Does this necessarily mean that the fish is still alive even though it may be headless and being devoured ?
Matt 07/01/05 06:17 pm No Pam, this fish was brought in with a head. Last year, a live fish was brought into the nest and while the chicks were fighting, that fish flopped itself right out of the nest. They lost their meal.

But it is very common for Dennis to bring in a full live fish to the nest, though most of the time he eats the head.
Pam 07/01/05 06:29 pm Thanks Matt, so ... if it is headless it would not flap ? There wouldn't be a kind of residual nerve twitch ? (I have in my mind a picture of a headless chicken running around).
Tiger 07/01/05 07:14 pm Well I saw an eel once that flapped for a very long time while it was being eaten.
Mickey 07/01/05 08:08 pm a headless fish can indeed still flap. rest assured thats its dead and its just involuntary muscle spasms.
