||Like, what were they thinking? In California the schools were "ranch style" where every room opened to the outside on opposing walls and one of then was solid windows.
I tried explaining this to my sisters and later to my nieces and nephew and they all looked at me like I was from outer space.

||Well, we didn't have this in Canada when I was growing up. Either we are too peaceful a country to have had to worry or I am too young to remember, though I doubt either excuse is actually true. More likely, my memory is just faulty....due to age (or nuclear fall-out from somewhere... ;-p

||This was done during the late 50's and pretty early 60's. Maybe Canada was smart enough to realize that ducking under your school desk was of no earthly use whatsoever. Funny in California, an earthquake drill was the same thing as an A Bomb drill.

||And each of drill was essentially as useless as the other. However, the chicks "position" is very useful as they almost disappear. Very clever!

||We had the drills in Ohio too except instead of having us crawl under our desks they had us leave the classrooms and stand up against the lockers in the hallways...ostensibly to keep us from being hit by the flying glass. Thinking about it now it does make more sense than getting under the
