Thread subject: Back from my Osprey Cruise after the Pulestons
||07/09/05 10:05 pm
||So I had to leave the DPOF picnic a little early 'cause my husband & I had reservations for the Osprey Cruise out of Riverhead on the Peconic River & into Flanders Bay.
The weather was PERFECT for an early evening cruise. We would have enjoyed it even if we didn't see an osprey.
However, we "parked" the boat quite close to a nest with 3 fledged chicks who landed one at a time just after we arrived. They started calling out and along came the mother with a fish. The 3 chicks had a great fight over possession, while the hen just stood on the rim of the nest watching. We finally left as one chick really got into its meal.
We saw no more osprey nests! We DID see quite a few white egrets, many cormorants perched up on top of masts of many sailboats docked in a marina, swans with their cygnets, mallard ducks, and many other small birds. It was a beautiful ride.
I had a great time at the Puleston picnic, visiting with our internet friends. It was a great day!

||Wow, Nancy! You are going to have a difficult time *landing* back on earth after this day!! If it were me in your shoes, I'd be floating for quite some time!!

||How super! What a day for you...and what a finale.
Life couldn't be better especially with an indulgence of/in osprey. Thanks for sharing.

||What great timing to watch the fledged osprey chicks ... I will get there to that cruise one day but realize that I might be best doing it by mid July if I want to see the osprey. I am loving the book ... thanks!
