Thread subject: Daring....?

||I'm sure I'm not alone in noticing how very close to the edge of the nest the chicks have been the last couple of days. Is Betty leading them there, choosing to feed them there, in preparation for their departure (like bringing their luggage to the door, waiting to say goodbye)?
Or are they just getting braver as they inch further out from the safety and security of the bowl of the nest, both literally and figuratively preparing to spread their wings?
Or am I just being a bit too introspective on this warm, lazy sunny Sunday... ;-)

||Yes Shelley I have noticed this too but not sure of the significance. Like your idea of showing them the door.......perhaps they have to get used to the drop off so they are prepared for perspective and depth perception. :-) we will never know if that is taught or just comes naturally if one is a bird.

||You mean like Osprey for "Don't let the nest hit you in the tailfeathers on the way out?"

||Dave confirmed yesterday that they are more than old enough to fly and that ospreys often fledge by accident the first time...they practice flapping, the wind hits their wings and before they know it they're sitting on a nearby
branch :-) I don't think that will happen with these two...they're ready and most likely Celeste will see them launch off very early in the morning in the next few days :-)

||The adoration of the chicks by the parents seems to have decreased recently.

||You mean like when the *teenage* years hit?

||Yeah, the time when you look at the baby pictures to remind yourself how "cute" they were!
