Oh Pam I must think of going up there!
Tiger 07/12/05 06:27 pm Now this is the most exciting news in a long time. I really had the feeling that this was needed. A sort of osprey dating club.
Marie 07/12/05 06:45 pm Always a great place to lose oneself after a busy day at work!
Thanks Tiger.......
OSPREY EATS CROW..mmmmm ?
Tiger 07/12/05 06:53 pm Oh I have thought so much about this and it always seemed to me that there were too few birds. Who knows some of those ageing Rutland batchelors may find young mates.
Pam 07/13/05 06:33 am Apparently there will be six young females released and they have permission for up to ten - hope I'm correct - I tend to skimread. They will be free to fly over Rutland Water and hopefully come to think of it as "home" and return to find a mate and nest there eventually in which case we may have a better chance of seeing ospreys through our binoculars - there has been a lot of secrecy (understandably) about the present nest and not a chance of the lay public being able to view it. However, it seems to have paid off so far with the chicks reportedly doing very well.
karen 07/13/05 12:20 pm Thanks Tiger for the update ... now those old bachelors just have to wait a few years for those girls to return. Are all the Rutland birds banded? Then they would know when/if they return.
Tiger 07/19/05 09:37 am Yes all the Ruland birds are banded well except thos that choose to come to Rutland by themselves. There is one unringed female about.

I know what you mean by waiting for the girls to mature.
