Mickey 07/13/05 04:50 pm After my recent ob and then yours I agree with you that it was Haven that wasnt eating and lifted up out of cam range. My reasons are:
Haven looks smaller and acted submissively when approaching for food. Plus Brook sure can feed off the fish better.
Im interested in your reasons why you thought it was Haven that lifted up too please?

If we`re right that it is Haven,he sure was doing good like Madeline said. And Im surprised it is Haven. When the Koi is all gone I cant wait to see if the feeding chick lifts up :)
karen 07/13/05 05:05 pm I just assumed that the eating chick was the alpha chick and I call that one Brook and that the submissive one who was coptering so well was therefore Haven. However ... on the next fish I assumed that Haven was on the right and was the one that jumped right on the fish and took it from the adult but then thought maybe the chicks had maybe changed nest sides while I attempted to actually get some work done and that I had now mixed it up .... and I also wonder if the smaller and more submissive is the almost fledged one.
Mickey 07/13/05 05:09 pm what you saw and wrote was dead on. they didnt change nest sides unless Matt was involved and pulled a quickie ;)
karen 07/13/05 05:23 pm So why did Haven seem so uncommited to the 2nd fish? Assuming that he had not eaten he did not seem to go crazy eating that one ....I found that odd. He is much less agile tearing at the fish than either Brook or the adults. And it was interesting that so far during this period I did not see Brook even copter at all. Been a very intersting afternoon.
karen 07/13/05 05:24 pm and I wish I could tell them apart besides based on behavior!
Mickey 07/13/05 05:30 pm I agree he didnt seem committed. I think it was 3 reasons. tuff fish meat, head still on, lacks the talent to tear tuff fish yet.
Matt 07/13/05 06:48 pm Yes it was me Mickey. I gave the nest a spin.
