Thread subject: growing into them....

Shelley 07/14/05 11:38 am You know, it occurs to me, watching all this flapping, you know how a puppy's paws are always too big for the rest of him and how a teenager's feet seems way too big until the rest of his body fills out and even how a newborn baby's head always seems larger in proportion to the rest of it.

Well, these chicks' wings also seem to my eye to be just too darn big for them to know what to do with, at this point, don't you think? It's actually so funny to me to watch them flap, almost as if they are startled that the wings are even there and attached to them! It must be the bird equivalent of when we put water flippers on our feet and try to walk... ;-)
Melanie 07/14/05 11:50 am It's almost as if the wings have a life (and a mind) of their own. These "chicks" are just a few grams of having reached their full adult size, so the proportions are right, even if they don't know it yet.
