Mickey 09/18/05 02:52 pm Today at the camp ground at Smiths Point I was treated to 3 juvies soaring in the thermals for about 30 minutes! They came from the bay side low enough so I could make out their creamie tipped feather and then got so high I lost them.
It was a real treat.
On the way home I stopped at the Montauk Highway Carmens river over pass and got out. It was very sunny and warm. I heard a Osprey from far away so I looked up. About 3 minutes later this huge juvie came in over the tree tops South bound right above my head over the river. It was certainly cruising for fish. As fast as it appeared, it was gone.
Marie 09/18/05 11:48 pm Glad that you saw osprey, Mickey.
I got to see two again too today.
I wonder if when they reach these high points that they just set their wings and glide off to points south...or are they just having fun on the thermals. Must be a real awesome feeling to use the wind and updrafts the way raptors do.
