Thread subject: I found a new nest yesterday
||09/19/05 05:10 pm
||A non-osprey friend and I went down into Southern Maryland yesterday and when we had accomplished what we set out to do, we did a little "poking" around. We went down to St. Mary's City (the site of the first colonial capital in MD at the confluence of the Potomac, Patuxent, St. mary's Rivers and the Chesapeake Bay - on the western side) and did a lot of walking around.
There's not a whole lot to see - Williamsburg it ain't (not yet at least) - they are basically still locating foundations and footprints and when they do, they frame a house over it. It's probably quite an eerie at night.
At any rate, we were poking around the cemetary at Trinity Episcopal church circa 1638, reading old headstones and wandered to the edge of the bluffs that overlook a lovely little bay. Lo and behold, what do I spy on a piling? HUGE and very well established nest, probably 15 years old. And in a lovely spot because you can literally look down into the nest bowl itself. Of course, no one was home and the only birds we saw were egrets.
I am hoping that gas prices really do go down - it's an hour and a half drive south from Annapolis

||How neat -- especially that you can look down into the bowl.
