to see a peregrine in Sweden ...right now.
Anne 11/13/05 07:40 am Thanks Pam - brilliant.
Pam 11/13/05 07:44 am And for those that really need to get a life - there is plenty of space on the right for Panda cam... it's a beautiful day here in UK and have to drag myself away from the computer now. (Cheers Anne - enjoy)
Anne 11/13/05 11:07 am It is absolutely beautiful here too Pam. I went on a birdwatching walk to a reservoir up in the Pennines yesterday. The winds of last week had brought a fall of 36 Pintails - how stunning they looked in the sunshine. The highlight though was a Great Grey Shrike that is wintering there for the third year in a row. I wouldent like to see these 'butcher' birds in action - impaling small birds on thorns and barbed wire and building up a gruesome larder - but they are very handsome when just perched.

I have never heard anyone in the US or Canada mention shrikes. Do you have them over there?

BTW, a guy we met yesterday said he saw an Osprey over the reservoir on November 6th, which is a very late record for the north of England.
Vicki in S. CA. 11/13/05 11:34 am Anne, we certainly have shrikes here in the US and they also impale their prey. Not a nice thought. The one I see here in California is the Loggerhead Shrike. I took the scenic drive across the Pennines on my recent trip to the UK, it was lovely there.
Madeline 11/13/05 01:59 pm Pam, thanks for the falcon link. Unfortunately it's 10:09pm in Sweden so I'll have to check in on it tonight.
