Celeste 11/17/05 08:11 pm My husband found a book that I am reading called "The Lady and the Panda" by Vicki Constantine Croke. It is a true story of the first American Explorer, Ruth Harkness, who went to Tibet in 1936 to capture "the most mysterious animal of the day": a bear that had for centuries lived in secret in the mountains. She took over this adventure, when her husband who had the idea for this expedition suddenly died in China. Harkness spoke out about what was in her day an alien concept: the conservation of the panda. She also did something that most of today's field biologists wouldn't be aware of...She returned a captured panda to the wild. I have just started to read it and I am really enjoying it.....
FOB Webmaster 11/18/05 02:15 pm Celeste, be sure to let us know what you think of it when you're done. I saw it in the bookstore and debated about getting it.
Celeste 11/18/05 05:51 pm My husband borrowed this book from the library. . Though I just started it, I am immediately "into it"....the dilemma at this time of year is "making the time to read it!"....but I will definitely let you know.
Cecilia 11/22/05 02:05 pm Thanks Celeste, I'll see if our library has it.
