Anne 12/28/05 04:28 pm I have just seen a robin on the corner of the platform and now I realise just how big that GHO of yours is!
FOB Webmaster 12/28/05 04:59 pm Yes, he's a big bird. I've read that Great horned owls are one of the few animals that can take out an adult osprey. I believe it was Poole that reported the finding of dead female ospreys that looked like they had been killed by owls -- the Great horned owl being the chief suspect. And they certainly kill osprey chicks and eaglets.

That's why our mother eagle was always so alert at night on the nest -- lots of owls about.
Nancy L 12/29/05 09:11 am A beautiful picture of the GHO on the Blackwater site. I just saw another eagle on the live nest site. We have a resident GHO at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge whom I hoot to when I visit.
Last week on my visit, there were dozens of Robins flying & chattering about there. The Robins in my yard, however, seem to migrate somewhere else.
FOB Webmaster 12/29/05 10:27 am The Blackwater Refuge ranger just told me they spotted a snowy owl near the refuge last week. He hung around for a few days -- they think that's the first sighting of a snowy owl in the county.
