Marci 02/07/05 03:25 pm Hi all,
My name is Marci. I posted a few times here last year when I first found this website. I enjoyed watching the ospreys so much last year, I've continued to keep up to date even though I've moved to Florida since then. In the past few weeks, I've discovered quite a few nests down here. Two at my daughter's soccer field, two at my son's baseball field and one at a local state park. I've had the pleasure of watching a pair of osprey building a nest at my son's baseball field this past week. I've included a link to a few pictures I took. The first few pictures are of the nest at the park. The last few are at the baseball field and they're not great shots, sorry..:) But just to give an idea. I am so happy I found them down here!!

cathy 02/07/05 04:10 pm Thanks for the photos. It appears ospreys prefer objects rather than live trees in which to build nests. Its amazing they build nests in busy ball fields and dead trees.I hope the park admin people allow them to live there and don't try to remove the nests. It will be interesting to hear from you about the progress of these nests and the ospreys in them.
Pam 02/07/05 04:21 pm Those floodlights - they love them. Lucky you Marci being able to watch so many ospreys.
Marci 02/07/05 04:35 pm There was a story in our local paper yesterday about the osprey nest in the park; they love having them there every year. They have no intention of moving the nest. I will try to keep everyone updated on how they are all doing. I've seen birds in all the nests so far.
When I lived on LI, I used to watch the nest at my son's ball field in Manorville. It always amazed me how they could build up at the top of the lights.
Marie 02/07/05 10:46 pm Hi Marci, do hope we can look froward to lots of updates on your special Ospreys. I think I recall that there are resident populations of osprey in Florida, so no wonder they are thinking of breeding already. The warmth the sunshine and the abundance of fish must be the recipe for sticking around all year.
