Starting before it was completely light, hence the bluish tinge to the first few. One looks as though he has been dusted with icing sugar. They all dissappeared to the rocky outcrops in the strait after about 8.30. The Mt Baker shot is from last night.
Marie 02/08/05 06:49 pm Fantastic Pam, once again. This young eagle is about 2yrs old going into third year I believe. That is why he/she has so much white icing on it. What a beautiful specimen and how close you get to these birds is amazing. Guess I will be drawing a few more young eagles...smile. Did you know according to 'SIBLEY' , one of the best books on Birds, that eagles that breed in the south USA are generally smaller, 10% shorter winged and 20% shorter tailed than their Northern Canadian and Alaskan cousins. Interesting.........I didn't know that until today when I checked on the age of this bird at Race Rocks.
Lori 02/08/05 07:39 pm Excellant pictures Pam! Hope you don't mind...I saved some for myself. :-) Thanks
cathy 02/09/05 12:06 am Wow - adult eagles look composed and tidy no matter what. This one looks like a punk adolescent. I imagine young eagles of the opposite gender must find it very attractive - with its fierce stare, sly smile, fine beak, and fluffy disheveled white tipped feathers in the morning sun.
karen 02/09/05 08:22 am Cathy your comment made me laugh out loud ... agreat way to start my workday ... Pam again great photos I have gone to the RR site and cannot ever figure out how to move a camera much less get pics! Glad I have yours to enjoy.
