Thread subject: Great River Grumman Osprey
Name Date Message
Rich_H 03/23/05 08:39 pm This morning arount 8:00 I saw an osprey on the nest infront of the olf Grumman facility.

Sometimes I see an osprey sitting on a low hanging wire there to the west of the nest.
Shelley 03/24/05 08:12 am Hello, Rich! Can you tell me where this Grumman facility is located? I am not familiar with the name
MarciS 03/24/05 09:03 am Shelley, this is the old Grumman facility on Sunrise Highway in Great River, right before Oakdale. It is now Long Island Tech something. I haven't been there in a while.
Celeste 03/24/05 09:12 am Shelley, at one time this facility was a defense contractor which built our space ships, (Lunar Module), and air craft for the government. My late father-in-law worked on the Lunar Module at Grumman and our name is on the Moon!
Tim P 03/24/05 09:14 am Shelly, having a good vacation? The nest mentioned here is on the service rd. of the Sunrise Hgwy.(no camera) here in Suffolk. The road is a heavy traffic area. The nest is in close proximity to the Connetquot River State Park Preserve. There is also another nest 7/10 of a mile east on the same rd. We often see Osprey flying from the river over the hgwy with fish. There used to be a fish hatchery in the preserve, Iâm not sure if itâs still in operation. There are some large trout in this river.
Nancy L 03/24/05 10:46 am The fish hatchery is still going at the Connetquot Preserve. I walk that park quite often (I have my permit.) Plenty of osprey call the park home.
Tim P 03/24/05 01:17 pm I was very excited to see 2 Osprey over the Hgwy in the area @ 11:30 am. One was holding a fish.
I'm psyched that the Osprey are finally finding there way back.Thanx Nancy.
Barbara Mc 03/24/05 06:23 pm On the way home from work at 3:20 two osprey were in the Grumman nest.
