Apparently an osprey pair are building a nest on top of a crane and they are nervous about what happens to the project if eggs have been laid.....
Celeste 04/13/05 06:26 pm Interesting article Melanie....had bittersweet feelings when I read it realizing how much these birds have to adapt to our world. They were here first! I also found it interesting how it must be for the summer boat people to return to their boats and find a mast on their mast. Must be something!

Tiger 04/13/05 07:14 pm That is a fascinating article Melanie. Please keep us informed of any updates.
Melanie 04/14/05 09:41 am You betcha. I am suspecting, though that since they have just started building that eggs are still a twinkle in someone's eye and the nest will be taken down.

My apartment complex is part of a marina and I have never seen an osprey nest up on a mast. I suppose it's possible, but you are more apt to find a mallard nest in/on the sail cover.

The interesting thing is that since Osprey have pretty much always existed in healthy numbers down here on the Chesapeake, that they are often viewed as more annoying wildlife.
