Thought Extinct...Ivory-Billed Woodpecker, Alive! Rediscovered in Arkansas

Did you hear about this? I just heard about it this morning when someone posted about it on another board I frequent. I also see that it was confirmed in my National Wildlife Federation newsletter.

It's truly amazing, isn't it!

Here's another link, too:

Tim P 04/28/05 07:31 pm Very cool, I just saw the film that confirms the sighting of this rare bird on the news tonight.
Cecilia 04/28/05 07:34 pm What a great story! Some good news for a change. Thanks Shelley!
Tiger 04/28/05 07:44 pm Oh excellent news Shelley. It is always such a thrill when something like this happens.
Celeste 04/28/05 07:50 pm How interesting! Pretty bird too! Thanks Shelley.
Tiger 04/28/05 08:30 pm Ah this story makes the ABC news.
Celeste 04/29/05 12:28 pm It was also in our Long Island Newsday.....The bird has a wingspan of 3 feet and 20 inches in length....It's "prehistoric" looking!
Melanie 04/29/05 03:31 pm I had a friend over last night when I heard the pre-commercial teaser on NPR. I dropped everything and ran over to turn up the radio. She looked at me like I was nuts. I managed to call my mother before the broadcast to be sure she listened, and she called my sister in Kansas and she called..... well, you get the picture. Once the broadcast was over, I explained to my guest that this bird was last seen 60 years ago and was thought to be extinct and she started getting excited and went home to research the ivory bills. We have a new Featherhead to add to the group!
