Thread subject: Grass In he Nest
Name Date Message
Tiger 05/10/05 03:16 pm Have you noticed just how many grass shoots are appearing all around the nest? Does this mean that we will have great clumps of grass obscuring the view in two months time?

Last year was relatively free of grass but the year before seemed to have quite a bit.
RonS 05/10/05 05:03 pm The first year of the cam, we had a large growth of grass on the nest. It obscured the view of the part of the nest closest to the cam. But is did provide a hiding place for the chicks during an attack on the nest by a large, unidentified bird.
Marie 05/10/05 06:20 pm Grass may have some heigenic properties to sweeten the nest. Even though we know that the very fact it is there was due to a 'bird deposit' some time ago before the ospreys returned. When given a good watering it is bound to sprout.
Many birds bring greenery to their nests to sweeten and sanitize them especially the bigger birds.
