Thread subject: Osprey on Mull

Anne 06/01/05 11:01 am The BBC Springwatch programme has just shown film of an osrey swooping at a whitetailed (fish) eagle nest which was complete with adult female eagle and 2 six week old chicks, on the Isle of Mull. Very risky - did the osprey mistake the nest for another ospreys?
Tiger 06/01/05 11:45 am Yes I saw that. I never knew that ospreys had reached Mull.

I had never really got to know whitetailed eagles until recently and I am quite excited by them.

On the other hand if I was a gull or something like that I would be downright terrified of them.

And here are the chicks themselves!

Anne 06/01/05 12:09 pm I saw whitetailed eagle on Mull 3 years ago. They are easy enough to see as their nest is publicised and watched, and they have a favourite meeting place outside the breeding season (Grasse Point). That year, an osprey got caught in a fish farm tank on the Sound of Mull and drowned. It turned out to be a ringed bird from Strathspey. So maybe some migrate along the western seaboard and maybe they will colonise the Islands someday. Thats if they dare encroach on the eagles territory of course.
