During the long incubation period we had endless discussion on the fish issue, particularly how much Betty was eating and what would happen when the chicks arrived.
As we know now we need not have worried as Dennis has been a bit of a master fisher.
However notice how Betty has a really healthy appetite.
Question is......was she starving during the incubation or is there another explanation?

Maybe the females don't need as much food during incubation because they use up less energy through this period?? |

I always assumed she was doing her own fishing, since she was gone for long periods of time at times. |

I agree with Nancy. During incubation she left quite regularly and Dennis sat on the eggs. She had to fish on her own.(imo) |

I am more inclined to think that Dennis dropped off fish at some perch. I think Dennis is a bit of a cleanliness fanatic the way he always comes back and removes the fish from the nest real quick. Later the same fish comes back, so he must have a storage place close to the nest.

Rick it is true that Betty did not need as much food during incubation but the tiny pieces we saw her getting were derisory.
