Thread subject: First osprey of 2005 spotted near my home

cathy 06/11/05 10:46 am Although ospreys return to Puget Sound area in early May, we don't see them fishing in front of our house until summer. I have not noted the exact dates before. Then we see 2 - 4 ospreys circling and diving and catching fish for the summer. I think of how people have recorded dates and made observations of various natural events each year. These observations are so valuable to us in learning about our world. Yet I don't even know what is happening on which dates in my own neighborhood except roughly.

It was thrilling to see the huge bird circling, head down gazing at the water, with white and brown under its wings, and the distinctive flaps. I suspect they come to this part of the shoreline when chicks have hatched and they need to widen their fishing area to find enough fish.
Marie 06/11/05 12:41 pm Exciting isn't it Cathy............I am off to see my ospreys for a while this morning so better pull myself away from here real soon..
