RonS 06/13/05 12:39 pm There are several OBS at about 12:30 PM concerning the dive-bombing by the Rew Winged Black Bird. This would make an interesting clip; you can see the RWBB in shadow silouette as well as in the cam. When Betty chirps her annoyance, you can see the chicks go into a defensive posture.
Melanie 06/13/05 02:07 pm I've seen it happen three times today and it seems to be in conjunction with a fish delivery. Maybe the Attack RWBB is a vegetarian........... ;-p
karen 06/13/05 04:18 pm The RWBB in Westhamton are very aggessive towards any birds that are near their nests. It is possible that this nest was built after the ospreys already had the territory but now that the RWBB prob has eggs or even young it is now more aggresive. I have seen them chase out grackles. crows and even the great egrets. The RWBB band together several birds to chase the egret until it leaves the area completely
Matt 06/13/05 06:57 pm Not only egrets, but also swans, geese, and people.
