Pam 04/29/07 05:49 am Well, the day dawns - dry and still. Maybe the first attack of the day has just occurred but Betty is still hanging out. The eggs appear to be intact (3 of them). One wonders what will happen today.
hwneyes 04/29/07 06:06 am I'm still clinging to the hope that a miracle will happen...the attacks will begin to diminish as the intruders will start losing interest in the nest.
Celeste 04/29/07 06:35 am The only miracle would be Dennis returning, and I do' believe Dennis is gone for good. Another alternative would be another male stepping in. In reading and searching yesterday, I read about an osprey male who was electrocuted, leaving the female with chicks that were already hatched. A male osprey stepped in and helped with the feedings. This of course is unlikely if you think of Henry from across the seas, but then, we have certainly observed unusual behaviors before.
Tiger 04/29/07 06:55 am The only thing remotely like this was back in 2005 at Loch Garten. Red 8T drove off Orange VS and there were hopes that he would help EJ hatch the eggs. In reality he nearly chucked one of the eggs out of the nest in trying to scrape out the cup.

In practice Red 8T was a clueless young osprey who knew little about tending to his female.

In the end EJ had to go fishing herself and the eggs were left uncovered but remarkably survived for a week until Henry turned up and did his now famous egg kicking routine.
Marie 04/29/07 09:40 am This whole thing is difficult to watch. Another attack. ;-(
