Thread subject: FOY (first of year) Ospreys
Name Date Message
Melanie 03/02/10 09:51 am I got a bird report from Eastern Mass this morning and single ospreys have been reported in Mashpee on Cape Cod and Newburyport above Boston. Not one single solitary osprey has yet been seen anywhere in the Chesapeake region. (Grumble grumble)
Pam 03/02/10 10:50 am Won't be long now
Melanie 03/02/10 10:54 am I sure hope so. Normally we start seeing osprey passing through here the first week in February. Not a single report yet. Of course, with the weather we have been having, how can you blame them? I have visions of them stacked up in the Carolinas like so many planes in a holding pattern waiting for a runway to clear. Then we'll get bombarded.
Mickey 03/02/10 11:33 am Hopefully they are in that holding pattern in Florida :) GA + the Carolinas are expecting snow today. With the right wind though, they can be here in 2 days from FLA. This weekend for you Mel.
FOB Webmaster 03/02/10 01:33 pm Hometown Annapolis had an article on ospreys being the harbingers of spring.
Melanie 03/02/10 01:44 pm I know. 3/4 of where to watch came from me.
FOB Webmaster 03/02/10 02:46 pm You didn't mention Blackwater. :-(
Melanie 03/02/10 02:55 pm She specifically asked for Annapolis & Kent Island nests. Blackwater would have been a bit of a stretch
FOB Webmaster 03/02/10 03:01 pm Ok. :-)
FOB Webmaster 03/04/10 07:54 pm From Susan at Tri-State:

On my way back here yesterday from the western shore, I saw my first osprey of the season. It was on the Annapolis side of the bridge on the nest on a piling looking south.
