Thread subject: High winds on Long Island

Nancy L 03/14/10 02:04 pm That was quite the rain storm we experienced yesterday. Quite a few people were without power at one time or another. This morning we found most of our bird feeders on the ground & the squirrels were having a ball!!!
Celeste 03/14/10 04:20 pm Where we are power lines, the poles, trees, are down. Somehow I have electricity, but the lights go on and off. Through the night we heard chain saws cutting large trees that were blocking the streets. This morning we had another heavy, heavy rainstorm with thunder and hail. 74mph winds hit JFK. A sparrow was sitting on my window ledge when a large clap of thunder this morning hit, he actually shook from the sound!
Marie 03/14/10 06:16 pm My goodness...sounds like a nasty storm. I hope all our featherheads are OK.!

Strange weather happening the world over it seems. Thank goodness the Osprey haven't arrived , but maybe they have already to Long Island. They certainly can't be far off. This is the month for arrival for Ospreys at DPOF.
But birds know weather patterns generally as they have been migrating for millions of years. Lets hope none were lost in that wind/rain storm.
Pam 03/14/10 06:22 pm Sorry to hear about that awful weather Nancy and Celeste...whatever next will the Long Islanders get? Hopefully sunshine but not in excess. It amazes me how you take it all in your stride. Please stay safe.
