cathy 03/20/10 12:59 am ...but I'm not there to see them. Reported on the Columbia River. I hope Marie sees some soon in B.C.
Celeste 03/20/10 05:19 am Sounds like the skies are truly "busy"!
martyc35 03/20/10 12:06 pm I have just ordered a new camera, a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ35K with 18xZOOM and hope to capture some decent photos once I spot some birds:-). Not an expensive cam at all, but great reviews with sample photos, so I am hoping. Maybe I should start venturing out to the river mouths, even though it's not April. After all, my stepdad used to catch steelhead in the Columbia from a rowboat. Oh, the good old days: my dad used to catch smelt at the mouth of the Sandy River (empties into the Columbia) just by standing there with a net and grabbing them as they swarmed by. But that was in the late 1930s:-(. They called it the smelt run, but I don't know if they even run anymore. Looking forward to trying my new camera next week! Osprey have traditionally been seen around Humboldt Bay, but the river mouths are still the best bet.

Pam 03/20/10 12:12 pm That's a good camera Marty. With 18 x zoom and fine definition you should get some really good pics. Look forward to seeing some, doesn't HAVE to be Ospreys either, some pics of your area would be nice :-) The Columbia river is just about the most impressive river I have ever seen.
martyc35 03/20/10 12:52 pm Well, I grew up in Portland, Oregon, right on the Willamette and Columbia rivers, but I'd need to take a little trip up through Oregon to get there, now. Not a bad idea, now that I can move around again:-). I plan to look around here first, though, as I haven't even had that chance since moving to northern CA. Thanks for the good word on the cam; it's so chancy just buying something off the internet. I will definitely post a few pics of my new home area while I'm trying out the new camera.

Celeste 03/20/10 02:21 pm I look forward to seeing the photos. My cameras are very outdated...
