Thread subject: Grumman nest..
Name Date Message
BOB4 04/23/10 08:45 pm I passed by the nest (4) different times today and one of the ospreys was sitting on the top of the LIPA pole near by. It would be great if we could find a way to motivate LIPA to add a rail on the very top of the pole so an accident won't happen.

Anyone have any ideas??
Tim P 04/24/10 06:46 am I dont see any pairs at either of the two nests on the sunrise hgwy. Looks like both nest will be vacant this year.
Celeste 04/24/10 07:03 am I was wondering about those nests Tim...I love seeing osprey on those nests. Sorry to hear that they will be empty.
On the other hand I was driving through Wantagh from North to South and it was so busy with traffic and as I was crossing Sunrise, above me was an osprey with a fish flying South. A very unexpected surprise!

This morning on the radio they mentioned that the Hackensack River is doing so much better with increased oxygen levels these days that more osprey and other wildlife are being seen.
martyc35 04/24/10 12:28 pm That's good news about the recovery of the waterways, Celeste. Out here, a huge effort has been going on to restore the San Francisco Bay and surrounding wetlands. Some of the efforts are actually working.
