Tim P 05/28/10 11:01 am Drove to south shore from the north shore this morning.

Stopped on the Sunrise highway, Grumman & oakdale nests on the Hgwy are void of nesting osprey. A male osprey was on the Grumman nest eating, there is a power pole next to the pole with the nest platform, only feet away. There is an accumulation of sticks on the pole (new nest?)or frustration nest by a young bird?

At DPOF an osprey was feeding chicks, sex of bird is undetermined as it is a far view. Also chicks aren’t large enough to determine how many yet maybe by the next time I visit. No action on the wagon wheel. Only saw one osprey fishing over the carmans.

Seems to me a lot of osprey are missing from this area in contrast to past years.

PS: NASA has a new osprey image posted.
martyc35 05/28/10 11:47 am Thanks for that report, Tim. It's good to know that Dennis and Betty are feeding chicks. That makes it all well in our osprey world, at least. Can't guess why a lot of other ospreys are missing. Perhaps some others will chime in.
